I bought this bunch back in 2001 at a street fair in NYC from a Russian artisan. The stand had so many of them and all of them so cute, but at $5 a piece my choice was limited. They are 1/4" to 1/2" in size. They are so tiny that i feel like a giant handling them. I have no idea how something this small can be created with such level of detail- in glass!
    Thanks for looking!

      Gorgeous critters.
This glass is made by lampworking. Essentially with a gas torch melting small rods of coloured glass to shape and sticking bits together by heat. It takes skill to get this much detail and personality!

Karen, thank you for the info and for your appreciation. Yes, i've heard of lampworking, as in "lampwork beads"...I didn't realize it's the same process. Apparently, there are lampwork animal beads, too (just found them on ebay). Wow, what a tedious process. If i had to do it, i'd feel like $20 a piece would not justify it LOL

What darling little figurines! Thanks, Karen, for the background information, I had a small lot of these for the longest time but bits kept breaking off and I finally just threw them all away. I'm not good with delicate things. :(
