    Thanks to research by katherine and TallCakes, I now know what this delicate porcelain cup is called.
    Completely glazed except for the thin edge on top. This little cup is hand made (not completely round).

    Now, to get to work on that funny symbol.

      tied a google image search on the mark but no luck

      katherine - interesting. I've never seen one before now.

      TallCakes - thanks for looking. I also didn't find anything. The mark is under the glaze. I wonder if it's some sort of maker's mark or something connected to a particular organization. Well, at least half the mystery is solved :-)
