This is my 1950 Underwood Electric Typewriter. I knew from the moment that I found out about these some years ago that I wanted to get a hold of one. I loved the styling with the swept-back airflow curves- they were just about the most 50's looking typewriters I had ever seen, which is why I love them. I finally managed to buy one, which was hard to do since these don't come up for sale too often, especially not with a standard 12 inch carriage- usually they are 16 inch and too cumbersome for my liking. All of the fun and beauty of a manual typewriter, ease of use of an electric, and all of the power and durability of 1940s technology in one! I can type papers on this machine faster than I can on a modern computer! I have been in the process of restoring the typewriter; it was originally a factory refurbished machine, blue and dark grey originally, then painted dull grey later at some point, which had become covered in black mold and scuffs from years of neglect. The front bumper was also snapped clean off. I went through the mechanical, repainted it in a 1950's style navy blue and cream paint job, bought a good replacement bumper, and now it is perfect for my needs. In image 4, the left side photo is before restoration, and the right side is after. I hope that this information will be useful to those who might find one of these and want some background information, and thanks for reading!
