This is a contemporary piece by Japanese glass artist Masahiro Nick Sasaki.
As can be seen by it's box Sasaki named this piece "Vessel".
The glass ground is a rich blue which has been coated. I know Sasaki has used platinum to coat glass and this may well be platinum, but I am not certain.
The vessel has been worked post firing in a battuto and scribe style.
Japanese glassmakers seem to love to post work their glass in some way.
This work is very unlike Sasaki's other series and is much more beautiful in life than these photos. It has a certain light in it and just yearns to be held.

I think it's elegant in it's simplicity Karen :) ...the boxes are always so well made too !
I think that when you enlarge image four, then enlarge it again, you understand why people are in awe of this technique. The skill and experience that must go into being able to create the effect on the lower part of the vase.....barely a sliver of glass between each cut. Magnificent!
very nice piece!
