Hello everyone, this is a Vintage piece that has been in my family for four generation's. it belonged to my Mother's, Father's Parent's, and the story was it came over on "the ship" from Germany. I have seen 2 similar one's printed in an old German dialect, which lead's me to wonder why this one is in English ? my piece is in very good shape, where the other 2 were not, with the flower', and fern's scattered about under the glass. this piece hung in the same place over the fireplace mantle for 63 year's, and has a small tear in the paper in the lower left corner. it measure's approximately 11 x 17" and is (what iv'e been told) in an Adirondack style frame. the frame does have a mismatched leaf, that has been nailed on with home made (?) nail's. another thing that has me wondering, what is the rectangle with the bird's, and birdhouse on it made of ? it has a "pimply" raised texture to it, the bird's, branches, and birdhouse are raised up. any idea's, or comment's would welcomed, thank you in advance, Ruth.
Ruth, I believe these are called samplers. If you Google that you will see what I'm talking about just trying to pass on a little info.

Hi officialfuel, thank you for your comment. this is not a "Sampler" they are typically stitched alphabet's, and numeral's, dated, and signed by the maker. this is called "Crewel" artistry, the pattern printed on the paper, not cloth was made to be stitched, but this artist did their own creating on this. the fern's, and flower's are attached (unknown how) and stitched down also. thank you Michael for your input !
