This home-made antique dress is absolutely charming. It currently belongs to my mother, who will pass it along to me one day. She obtained it from a doll collector, who gifted it to her.
The dress is burgundy and measures 21" long and 17" at it's widest point. It's made of silk, which is displaying some slight shredding towards to top (but considering its age, its doing pretty well) with the most beautiful antique cotton lace trimming and netting, and old buttons at the back. It's a delicate and striking piece.
My best guess for dating this piece would be around the 1880's/90's. If you have any further info on the style of it or anything else, please let me know.
We know nothing about the history of this dress, who it belonged to or what doll it was made for. We can only wonder....
Some mother made this with loving hands for her child :-) To bad that silk did not hold up well to time on these wonderful antique clothes so many lost to damage . Looks like half Fashion doll but would have been on maybe a compo body bisque doll with such a large waist . A Treasure !! Thinking 1900-1910 because sleeves are no longer puffy but still has a bit of a train and no bustle .
Thanks for the info, appreciate it :) I'd love to see the doll that was originally wearing this. I think you're right with that date of this piece too.
