I Guess a fairly nice example of a WWII German Combat Helmet.
This is way out of my normal type of purchase, but when something catches my eye, I have to go for it. It Has the date M1943 stamped on the inner leather part as well as the #61. I don't know if I over paid, under payed or if it is even authentic, but it was calling me and therefore it came home with me. I have bought some other military items from this location before, A few Civil War Medals, a Few bayonets ( all English ) and a few WWI items which have all been authentic. So Here it is. Any info as with anything I post is always appreciated, This I tell myself is how I gain more knowledge. Hope everyone is well and making it through this really cold winter. Please everyone stay safe and warm.

Unless this was really sealed well, it is a remake. 70-85 yr. old leather just doesn't look like this. If the shell is original, but redone, you may have gotten a good/fair deal. The decals just don't even weather this well. Maybe for a re-enactment group or even movies. You sound happy, so you filled a space with something you obviously wanted. You're a winner! What are the stampings on the metal shell ?

it's a post war WEST GERMAN Police M52 helmet that somebody added Nazi decals to make it look like a WW2 German helmet.

These type of helmets were also issued to the BGS/Bundes Grenz Schutz - border guard units of Western Germany.

      Thanks battlegear.
I am by no means an expert on military stuff. Just thought it was cool. Thanks again!

I would have bought it too, if the price was reasonable, it still looks good for displays, it's still better than a current repro, since it's an actual German helmet made for the Police / Border Guards, not some recent reproduction from China or India.

That's good to hear. Again I tell myself this is how I learn. It was hundred bucks. I guess ya win some and learn some. Still as you said cool for display which is what it will do and any non Chinese is a blessing.

Hey Battle. I thought the pattern of the vent holes in the leather was changed, or was that later ?

Did you check the link he provided up top for me? It explains this helmet to a tee and the later removal of vent holes and the removal of the 3 rivets. I like to learn trouble is I forget more then I take in.
