This little gem was hidden under a stack of dishes. The condition is super. I've wanted one of these for a long time, but have never come across one at the flea markets or seen one in the thrift shops until tonight. I looked on the web and was shocked at the prices these sell for! $40.00 and up. I guess this is from the 1930s or 1940s. I really don't know. The ones on the web are listed as being antique.
Thanks for looking, CW friends!
Hiya - there were originally used for either sifting or for separating grain.
This one is 19th century and looks very similar to mine:

What is the screen made of ?
blunder, the screen is metal.
thanks, Thomas!
Hopefully not aluminium.
blunder - I've worked with aluminum screening, and this is definitely the old type of metal screen.
blunder - I added a close up photo of the edge.
I bow to your expertise & run, with my tail between my legs, to a dark corner ! LOL!! I've seen that kind of screen on antiques before & wondered what it was made/coated with to last so long ? Electrolysis/plating isn't that old. Maybe something created by NASA in those days. LOL!!
Blunder, hahahaha!!! You are right, it is amazing. There is a very small bit of what looks like corrosion. Other than that, it's in really great condition.
Old screens which were also made from bronze, copper or brass wire.
Amazing condition, the wood, for its age. You're lucky, whoever owned it before took such great pride in ownership. Wonderful find! ;>)
How cool is this Bonnie? I love it!
