I found this in my aunt's belongings after she passed. I had two uncles in WWII and I'm assuming it belonged to one of them. I tried to date it but there's too much wrong with it for my untrained eye.

It seems to be steel, 4 barrel inside hinge. The closest I could come was 1941 Late. But the chimney seems like a repair? 22 holes doesn't match up with anything I've seen online.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Have you pulled the inside of it out? It looks to be before the date codes were added. Inside should have info on it as well and it should match the bottom outside with the pat. number and Zippo too. What does Zippo.com say about it?

P.S. Even tho the lighter has seen better days, always take out the flint on all your lighters. That's what ruins the lighters. If you have Dunhill, Dupont, Cartier...take them in and have them removed.

Thanks for the help! I did pull out the inside and it has no markings. There are no date codes so zippo.com wasn't very helpful. I know it's after '37 due to the patent. Nothing seems to match a steel (or chrome) 4 barrel inside hinge with the markings on the bottom.

Your Zippo Lighter was patented by George Blaisdell on March 3, 1936. He assigned the patented to Zippo Mfg Co.

Trusty ole soldier's friend . What it has obviously been thru makes me stop & think ! Sure didn't know that about removing the flints.

I'm think this guy was either in Normandy with my uncle Jack or in Burma with my uncle Rex. The date could help solve the mystery. I wish I could post a picture of the insert but I was limited to 4.

      Thanks for everyone chiming in.
