I found this old commode in a shed in Michigan. The shed I found it in is about 100 years old but of course that does not mean this is 100 years old. It appears to be oak, has a lid that flips open to reveal a wooden toilet seat that also flips up-- the hinges on the inner lid are unfortunately broken, but other than that it is in good shape. There is also a little chain that used to probably keep the lid from flipping too far, but it is broken-- just a couple of pieces and the connectors remain. I'm sure it used to have a chamber pot inside, but I couldn't find it in the shed. Anyone have any insight on this? I have only found a few similar models on the internet but nothing exactly matching. There are no maker's marks, only a stenciled "2" under the toilet seat area.

These were 'utility' pieces, Especially in Michigan ! they were used in the house at night so you didn't need to go outside (brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) until morning...They were not cheap, you needed to have two or three dollars to purchace one like this, most were home-made but I can see that this was factory made by the joints.. Thanks for posting it !
Thanks for the input and comments. Anyone have any thought to age or know of any companies that may have made these back in the day?
