Hi everyone. I have a beautiful sofa that was given to me by someone, about 3 years ago. I don't know anything about its history, and because I love it so much and feel such good energy for/from it, I would appreciate any details on it.
I answered a "For Sale" ad for a TV tray/table in my building. A young woman answered my knock at the door, and brought the small table to me. Before we knew it, we ended up in conversation for over an hour...at her door! It turns out that she had been in my city for 2 years, for a medical research stint, and was returning to Italy in a few days (hence she was selling items from her apartment). As we spoke at the door, a lovely shade of blue "velvet" fabric caught my eye, and I finally decided to ask about it. That is when the woman asked me to come in and take a look at a sofa she had.
It was just gorgeous! It has beautiful lines, a clean shape with a vintage yet timeless look to it. The fabric is soft and smooth to the touch, and the 4 seating cushion covers are removable.
I asked her why the sofa was the only item that she did not include in the "For Sale" ad, she replied: "When I first moved here 2 years ago, I stayed with an older couple who were offering a home-stay, for a few months, as I didn't know anyone or anything here. When I decided to move out on my own, they insisted that I take at least the sofa which I liked, since I didn't own any furniture. It would be one less item to purchase, and they would not let me pay them for it. There was, however, one condition: when my research stint would end and before I would move back to Italy, I had to pass the sofa on to someone whom I felt it was truly meant to go to. The sofa had been in the elderly couple's home for many years, and because they felt that way about me, they passed it on to me. When I was ready to part with it, I had to do the same. Until now, I had not felt that way about anyone, until you showed up. You confirmed it by asking me about it, when you just saw a hint of the blue from the side, from the apartment door."
That is how I inherited this beautiful sofa. Because we had just met that one time, and we were distracted by our own connection and the irony of meeting for the first and last time before she returned home to Italy (she had moved to my building 2 years before but we had never crossed paths), I gleaned very little information on the sofa. At the end of our conversation, at midnight, we carried it from her apartment to mine on a different floor. I am generally a minimalist and have very few items in my space, but the sofa "fit" with ease, as if it were meant to be.
If anyone can share any details or recognizes the style, make, etc, it'd be great to know.
I will continue to enjoy its presence in my space :).
Thanks!
