I don't know that I like it, I just want to know what it was used for! I'd like to know all about its origins really. This compote(?), fruit bowl, mega wedding cake holder or something belonged to my husband's mother, maybe. He couldn't really remember, it was 'always there' and there was no one to ask. Now that he's gone, there's really no one to ask!
Anyway, it has bubbles in the glass along with mold lines. It stands about 14 inches high and 8 inches wide. The pattern is pressed on the inside of the lid yet outside of the bowl bottom, then again on the inside of the base. The base measures 4 1/2 x 5. Surface to bowl bottom is 5 1/2 inches.
Initially it made me think it could be named stars and bars but then I looked that up. This pattern definitely ain't that! Looking closer there is a row of 3 diamonds on their sides and 2 triangles. It's been bugging me for years and today, I found this site. Even if no one knows the pattern or maker, I'd be satisfied to know what it is supposed to be used for. Thanks for reading this.
yes, it's a covered compote; tho' some catalogs simply called these footed bowls. So use it for whatever make you happy. The pattern is Adams and Co. "Ashman" c1886; AKA: Cross-Bar and Fine-Cut
Impressive!
Yes, the sleuth knows her glass! An answer within an hour of posting is pretty impressive. Thank you very much! Now that's answered I've got another pattern to post.
you're very welcome! said he. I think I have a cake stand in this pattern around here somewhere.
