According to Loetz Bohemian Glass, 1880-1940 (Cantz), Arno Richter, who was a student of Kolo Moser and Josef Hoffmann at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna (biographical data unknown) executed about 14 glass designs only for E. Bakalowits Söhne. Most are adventurous for the time, with applied prunts, drip, and fins, etc. These were made in small quantities. This one in PN 85/4000/II dates to about 1901, and is quite small, at about 8 cm tall and about 8.5 cm wide (with the prunts). The Vulcan decor, which is also exclusive to Bakalowits, features a uranium glass ground lined with spreading brownish violet. Cantz features another vase in this shape in a spectacular decor - opal Phänomen Gre 358 (p. 171, plate 135).
