Hello! I have this nice trinket? Box, not sure who makes it or what it exactly is/used for. It has what looks like slate on inside of top of box. It is stamped on outside on top of box. If anyone can give me any information I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi, I think it could be a Japanese writing box. See this article for more info...

The quality of the decoration would certainly suggest that it was Japanese to me and then the stone inside would be an inkstone on which the ink sticks were ground.

You're welcome. I just love the quality of Japanese craftsmanship. It's probably down to the fact that they hold their top craftspeople in such high esteem, calling the very best "living national treasures".
