I purchased this doll at auction (and 3 others that I will post seperately because I felt bad for them, nobody was bidding on them and I found them intriguing!
This one is 20" tall and has no markings. Her dress fits her well. She has what I believe is an original cloth body with porcelain arms and feet and shoulders and head. Very pretty doll!
I was thinking she maybe Civil War area from her dress, but I don't know.
She has had her face totally repainted hard to tell who she is because of repaint, From your photo she looks like she is made of tin is she ? or is it softer like paper mache ? Looks like replaced body from photo also . Dress is not original to her , main thing is if you love her for displaying :-) Better photo closer up on body would help .
Tin??? I don't think she is made of tin. I uploaded better pictures.
Your new photo's are way to small put back the close up of her face you had up ok
If you can load # 3 and 4 larger it would help :-)
Body is replaced
I will be retaking pictures, my husband is going down to get the doll. How can you tell the body is a replacement?
Material is wrong
OK, I appreciate your help, I am not questioning what you are saying, I just like to learn. I tend to say I have a feeling about that and buy it.
I upload the new photos. My husband is laughing at me because he brought me the doll and I said "OK Beauty, I need to take your cloths off and get new pictures but I will be nice and then dress you again." He thinks I am nuts!
I included a picture of her leg because I don't see any crazing there. As for her face the glaze looks solid, it is under the glaze that looks like there is crazing. I didn't notice that at the auction.
Well thank you husband :-) I have no idea what they did to her she appears to have had her shoulder plate repaired and what they did to face but it has been altered and really decreased her value and I see she was a china doll with elaborate hairdo from photo that did not cut off the curls on top of her head . New body and hands and feet . Just seeing no value in her anymore :-( They gray I see in hair now I see is paint that is why I asked if she was made of tin . To a china collector her face has been ruined with re paint and new glazing . Or she is a repro . Almost need to hold her to tell what they did to her .
Even so, I can see she's a beauty, charming face. What does her dress look like?
Her dress from prior photo is appropriate to her although dress's have been made out of old material to replicate vintage clothes . I used to make them for museum out of vintage material. Look close at sewing and for fine needle work and even hand stitching of hems ect would have had hook and eye closure and almost always lined .
Yes her dress does have hook and eye closures on the inside lining of dress and yes it is definitely hand stitched.
So from what I have learned, Thank you Manikin, two of the four dolls are original, High Brow Dolls and two are reproductions or have been repair.
You have been ever so lucky
Thanks Zowie I just could couldn't let them feel unwanted.
