I actually found this (Canadian) WWII cap badge in a jar of buttons that I got at a garage sale for 50 cents. The dimensions are 1 3/4 X 1 ½ indicating that it is indeed a cap badge as opposed to a collar badge. There were two distinctly different dies used for cap badges during the period. The reason is because the die used on the first cap badges was either lost or destroyed. The bulk of badges found are from the second die. Mine is from the first die. The Regiment was raised in Stratford Ontario and that is where I bought the button jar.
This is what I know of the Perth Regiment: 11th Canadian Infantry Brigade, 5th Armoured Division Home Station Stratford Ontario Mobilized on September 1, 1939 Embarked for the United Kingdom on October 9, 1941 Landed in Italy on November 8, 1943 Moved to North-West Europe in March 1945 Battle Honours Liri Valley, Gothic Line, Coriano, Lamone Crossing, Fosso Muni, Conventello-Commachhio, Italy 1943-1945, Ijsselmeer, Delfzijl Pocket, North-West Europe 1945.
I would love to know what the badge is worth but can’t find any references… Any ideas?
Pam
