Very nice! That's a seashell, not an owl. An acid test will determine if it is silver, but can't determine the amount of silver without either a stamp or a gadget that measures the silver content of an item.
I know it looks like a scalloped shell but I believe its a stylized owl:)
Thanks for telling me what you think it could be:)
I think the artist was thinking of an owl when making this pin:))
LOL! "Coquille St. Jacques" Scallop Shell. If I squint real hard - I can SORT of see how it COULD be an owl But he's awfully fat - he'd never get off the ground. And without a beak - how would he eat?
Scroll down to the bottom here - there is a silver dish exactly like your pin!

"Coquille St. Jacques," the scallop shell used as the symbol of St. James the Great of Compostela and worn on their hats or carried by devotees on their pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
Thank-you Celine and ever-one for your comments and now I know for sure what this stick pin is:))
