I don't know what the opening is for, it seems that the table had a purpose. If anyone knows what this storage opening was used for please let me know. I thought maybe it might be used for firewood or umbrellas. The faces are on both sides of the table not just one. This is Spanish colonial.
There appears to be lots of info on the internet of this furniture company. A great find and the label is so wonderful when most pieces of furniture had no label.
Back in the 80s, when we bought our first house in Bridgeport, the old (90ish) lady behind our house had a table like that in her kitchen. It held the wood for her wood fired oven, which was a monster that almost took up the whole kitchen. When one side was empty, sometimes she wood store grain or flour in it. It kept the mice out.
