I'm a fan of all postal antiques, so while cruising around Stoudt's in Adamsville, PA, this wall of old brass PO boxes caught my eye. It wasn't for sale, but part of a snack bar or administrative counter at the back.

The highlight of this piece in my opinion is the PO boxes themselves, with nice beveled glass. I'm guessing these are Eagle Lock Co. units, oxidized cast bronze, circa 1913; similar to the box on page 128 of Jane's book.

    Jane, am I wrong here?

Part of my summer 2010 whirlwind east coast antiques tour.

This is a beautiful Post Office with the 'call box section' and the cast bronze PO box doors with the intact pretty 8-sided beveled glass adds a special touch. The small 'service window' in the middle of the call box section with the brass 'General Delivery' plaque over the window is quaint. Actually the doors can be found on page R127, not 128, of my Post Office Lock Box Doors Illustrated Guide, second edition. I appreciate 'potrero' mentioning my Illustrated Guide and writing comments about this unusual PO.

Thanks Jane for the ID! For those who don't know, Jane is THE expert on these PO boxes, and her book is the bible. Available on eBay I believe.

Thank you, 'potrero', for the compliment! Yes, my Illustrated Guide is available on eBay. My eBay user ID is gypsyjane.

So how much is something like this old post office piece worth?

I work at Stoudts' Antique Mall and happened upon this post and wanted to let you know that the PO piece you mention is now for sale. Call us 717 484 2757 or stop by for more information! Ask for Vicki or Heidi.
