Any idea what this rounded type of desk would be called so I could have search terms would be appreciated. An idea of era, maker, name would be amazing. Ideas on how to repair & prevent veneer from coming off any further would be highly welcome.
This desk (or vanity table??) was found in downtown Ventura CA in 2004 buried in a recycled furniture store where I also purchased an unmatching buffet I hope to post later. I have looked for any type of info for years but have never seen another remotely like it & I have seriously tried.
Desk has 9 drawers.
All edges rounded even the usually unseen back of the drawers except center drawer front & platform.
Dovetailed everywhere.
It is completely finished all around.
Does not show evidence of any type of hutch or mirror mount or having ever been mounted.
There are no drawer pulls, rather there are cut out areas to use as handles on the inner part of all the drawers.
The drawers are all on wood slides.
There are no makers marks anywhere on it. I have checked all drawers, in drawer slots, & even under the desk.
Unfort it suffered some veneer damage from movers during our last move but otherwise it is in next to perfect condition considering it is a matte unvarnished wood. I want to repair the veneer but have no idea how & a furniture medic I consulted said just to buy markers & disguise it. Unfort there is an area pulling away right above the center drawer that is getting worse & that piece would be terribly noticeable when it gets torn off.
