This is from Belgium. In 1923 they issued a unified series of general Revenues to replace the duty specific revenues from before. If this sign was older, it probably would have had an Affiches (Public Signs and Posters) revenue on it. These revenues were issued with two parts, so that they could be used on invoices, bills and receipts with a built-in duplicate copy (in those cases the stamp was cut or torn along the line of text through the center). Two copies of the stamp were not necessary in this case - so the entire stamp was affixed and tied to the document (the sign). This is the 2 Franc value from the October 12, 1955 series (12th series). The design of the top portion depicts a medieval woman in a headdress, and the bottom depicts a stylized lion (The bottom portion always depicts a lion in some form). Design is by Severin. Values from 1F to 9F are chestnut & black; 10F to 90F are green & carmine; 100F, 200F, 300F are violet & black; 400F & 500F are green & carmine; 600F & 800F are green & carmine; 1000F is pale blue & black; 2500F is pale blue and carmine. Values from 1F to 400F are on greenish paper, from 500F up are on pinkish paper.
