This little dog has had me baffled for quite some time. Picked him up at a garage sale for a quarter, thought he was cool. This is pink glass, not sure if depression glass, not even sure if the piece is old. I've looked and looked for similar items and found none. The dog is solid glass yet the base is hollow. Could it have been a lid for something? He stands 6" (15 cm) tall, 5" (12 cm) wide, and 2" (5 cm) deep. Would love to learn more about this item. If anyone can help it would make my week.

I never even thought that this could be a candy container. Thanks for the idea Rob. I know they made glass candy containers for kids, I have a couple of them. The containers had paper covering the area where the candy was and the candy was little tiny balls. I am unable to locate one like my example but what a good lead.

After some internet searches I stumbled upon a description of this item, hence I titled it, "New Martinsville Glass". Mystery Solved? Hopefully! New Martinsville would become Viking Glass. I believe the above piece was nothing more than a figurine. I've heard bookends, and I thought maybe a candy container but I think it is just a figurine. Any corrections to my logic or conclusions is greatly welcome.

I found one of these dogs in my grandmother's antique filled home a week ago, but it's not any type of lid or candy dish. This one is the top half of a lamp and when it's on its a soft pink German Shepherd. The cast iron base has some letters engraved on it that looks like W.R.I.A.F.C. NYC PAT APPL. FOR and the first part of that is a guess at best. I'm not sure if I can post pics on here but if so I'll figure out how.
