Poland, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and unknowns that look Cyrillic.
My ancestors, before they went to Germany, were Czechoslovakian-- fairly powerful, too.
*Needs help on IDing ones like pic one upper left.*
3rd photo:
the top one with a horse: "Poland, 60 grosz (Polish money), Riding", canceled with a stamp "Warsaw"
Top row, from right to left:
1. "Poland, 3 zloty (Polish money)" Canceled with a stamp "Lipa 12 Dec, 1960(?)". I can't see what's written on the side of the stamp.
2. "Airmail Poland, 20 zloty" stamped "Dec 9th, 1949"
3. "(FNR=Federal People's Republic) Yugoslavia, 30 dinar"
4. "Republic of Estonia (Eesti Vabariik)"
5. Ukrainian- see below
Bottom row, from right to left:
1. "Czechoslovakia, 60 haler (defunct), 15 April? 1947"
2. "Czechoslovakia, 60 haler"
3. "Czechoslovakia, 2 korunas"
4. "Mail, Czechoslovakia, 5"
5. "Serbia, Mail, 5"
Now, the Ukrainian mystery stamp (?)...on the bottom it says "Ukrainian People's Republic", and what it says on top is not even clear to my Ukrainian friend. "30 shagiv" sounds like a broken Russian "shagov"= 30 steps. In Ukrainian, steps="kroky". Maybe "shagi/y" is a name for some old Ukrainian money, but i can't find anything.
The Ukrainian trident underneath "30" is either a post-1991 thing or it's something very old, since, according to my research, this symbol goes waaay back in history of Ukraine. Def not a soviet period item. How old is this "stamp"? Looks like pre-1920s.

Wow, thank you so so much!!
I will research these over Spring Break. :)
The LOVES are from my wife ~~~ she has a large collection of JAPANESE postal stamps from when she was a little girl in Japan to the present. She says THANKS FOR SHARING! ; )
LOL. It is my pleasure.
I also have Oriental stamps I shall post some time...
I won't be helping you with those LOL
*Laughs.* Aww, but why not!? :P
I don't know a single symbol of any Oriental language. I can only identify them by major groups, eg. Korean, Japanese, Chinese, but not subgroups or dialects. So i'll just quietly admire your Oriental collection :P
I was gonna post them for Nevada's wife-- ohh, I should also post my first edition of Nevada, by Zane Grey.
Preview of stamps from somewhere in 'the Oriental':

(I mostly rejected the oriental stamps to the 1-cent pile. Like 3 escaped. LOL.)
You've got a 1st edition by Zane Grey?!!? PLEASE POST!!! ; )
Do you like Zane Grey? I have several first editions by him LOL.
I have not pics of it yet, as I've had it so long, but here are two others I have up on here:

Yes, I'm a big fan of Westerns, both movies & books. Used to be a voracious reader, graduating from college with a B.A. in English Literature. But haven't read anything since losing my elder son at 29 to a work-related accident in 2007. Just beginning now to live again. Our granddaughter, June-chan, and now this forum have been great healers for my soul, though there will always be a scar and a big part of my heart missing. Gosh, I'm sorry. Don't mean to be so morbid. Thanks for sharing your previous posts. Enjoyed them.
Zane Grey got me into Westerns.
I might minor in something pertaining to English. I do quite well (that's an understatement) in English, and I also write, so....
I'm sorry to hear about your son. I know well how damaging death is to those still living.
It is not good to just survive. We're meant to thrive. But when life whips you something fierce, it's hard to even survive. But God has given us strength, and strength can be found in many things-- I find mine in Him, some find it in living for those who have passed on but would want them to thrive, and others find it in many other ways. Family, such as-- it sounds-- Juan-chan, are amazing healers. Stick close to them. My family blew apart before I was born and into my early years, so yeah..
THANK YOU, SPIRITBEAR, FOR YOUR KIND & HEARTENING WORDS.
I hope my comments didn't make you feel uncomfortable -- I feel now they were meant for a different forum -- but once you submit your comments, there's no way for us to take them back or to even edit them. I'm so sorry. Thank you again for your understanding & kindness. : )
I'm easy to converse with. If you want, I will delete them?
Nevada, I am very sorry to hear about your son, too. I do know the pain of losing loved ones, but i imagine there's no pain deeper than losing a child. My heart and thoughts go out to you, and i am glad that you have people and things in your life that help you go on, see the meaning, have strength, and heal.
My comments about my son's passing, though inappropriate for this forum, have now been read and responded to by another member, the response as kind and thoughtful as yours. I think it would be disrespectful to this member to delete my comments now, otherwise the member's response would also need to be deleted, because it would then stand alone strangely without supporting reference if it weren't deleted as well. So, if you're okay with it, please my comments as they are. Again, thank you for your kind thoughtfulness.
AnnaB >>> Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words.
NevadaBlades, as I was contributing to this post, I was just checking for updates, noticed your comment and just couldn't not say anything...Please don't let my comment stand on the way of whatever decision you and SpiritBear make. Sorry if I made it more complicated.
AnnaB >>> No, the only person who made things complicated was me, and I must be the one to apologize, not you, Anna. : )
SpiritBear >>> I'm so sorry for taking up space here on your post for my personal issues.
I do similar things all the time. I was having a nice convo with one member when the person who had the thread began deleting all we said. LOL.
I'd open up more if this weren't public, where people can possibly know who I am (my name is the same in most places, which one has my real name too,) but if you want to talk about anything, my email is MalemuteKid1@gmail.com
Or if you use Skype, I'm AchakMachk
That is Spirit Bear in another language. LOL.
Just make sure you ID yourself as Nevada.
Is "AchakMachk" the native Alaskan language??? If not, please don't be offended, that wasn't my intent. Geez, there I go again! [;>)
I find languages very fascinating. I graduated from college with a degree in English Literature, but my minor was Linguistics, the study of languages. I liken language, or the ability to speak a foreign language, to an art form. You either have the talent or you don't. I apparently don't, who lost all of my Japanese ability within 2 years of arriving here in America when I was about 6, and never regained it to any real practical use after returning to Japan with my wife and living there for 10 years! My wife, on the other hand, speaks both Japanese and English fluently, with Japanese being her native language. Even her pronunciation and intonation are near-California-perfect, which is where we met in college -- in my hometown, San Jose, CA.
Algonquian. Northern US and Canada, but not Alaska.
I don't think Alaska has a native language, but several languages. The US's national language almost became German, but we have none.
I used to do Native American (Algonquian) sign-language, but due to having no one to use it with.... It kind of went flat. LOL.
Pero, yo hablo el espanol mas o menos. Yo entiendo espanol casi totalmente.
*4 years of Spanish.*
So you went from Japan to San Jose to Japan to Nevada? Interesting. I am Michigan born and raised.
From Tokyo, Japan to San Jose, CA to Seattle, WA to Kamakura, Japan to Cupertino, CA to Las Vegas, NV to Durango, CO to Farmington, NM, and finally back here to Vegas! And I think there's still at least one more move somewhere yet in the future, unless June-chan moves over here.
Because San Jose, CA has a very large Hispanic population, Spanish was mandatory when I started junior high school in the early '60's, so, technically, I've had 3 years of Spanish, but like I said, I have no talent for languages. The only phrase I can speak in Spanish is, "Uno memento, por favor", then I go look for a Spanish speaker who can interpret for me!
June-chan's mother is half Paiute Native American and half German. Her surname is SWINDERMAN. Very lovely girl. My wife is full Japanese. I'm half Japanese and half Irish (Kiyoshi Hannigan), though I never knew my biological father, who was with the U.S. Occupational Forces in Japan after WWII and met my mother there. But that's another story. So, that makes my son is 3/4 Japanese and 1/4 Caucasian. And poor little June-chan has all that mixed up inside her!!! As you can probably tell, this old fool simply adores her. ; ))
LOL. It sounds like you have an interesting family that you adore. It's good to hear that.
