This was my Grandma's bear, passed down to my mum then to me.

I do not know maker, if this could be identified by anyone that would be great!

Also, what to do with a bear like this? Im not sure I want to keep him even though he is lovely. I think he may find a happier home as he will only be in storage in our house.

Grandma was born in 1907, and I think the bear is from somewhere around that time.

I am thinking he is pre-world war I due to Grandma's D.O.B and the following features:

    - I think it is Mohair fur rather than artificial silk plush
    - His pads are felt i think
    - He is stuffed with woodwool and crackles when squeezed (tummy, not limbs and head i don't think though)
    - Long limbs, which indicates age also?
    - Eyes are wooden with some over-covering for the irises, unsure what this is.
    - Nose is felt and has come off a bit! :(
    - Head and limb joints are swivelling with metal/cardboard? discs which can be felt inside.

Any advice / information please let me know!

He maybe made by Chad valley or Chiltern. I know of no early company that used felt nose or wood eyes . His nose seems replaced and perhaps eyes also as they were often pulled off bu kids. His paws are not felt but seem to be a velveteen material . He is Mohair . Nice that he has stayed in family . Lots go into determining bear maker much more than you show but those 2 companies come to mind on him , his limbs are average size not long . Cute :-)
      Welcome to CW .

Thanks for adding more pictures is the nose stitched like thread would be not a flat piece of felt ? Hard to tell by photo .

      Hi Manikin...
Thanks for the info, very interesting!
The nose could indeed have been replaced... I can see no remnants of an original thread-stitched nose if he did have one... His nose material does look more "modern" than the rest of him now that you mention it. It looks felt and thread holding it in place does look less professionally done than that holding his velveteen pads on.
Under the felt nose, that has come off a bit, is almost a gauze-like underskin.
Are you able to date him at all?
      Thanks
