Mysterious metal purse with bolts on the side. Gorgeous but not useful. It flips open on both sides with separate lids. One side has the number 17 marked on it, one has 18.

It's heavy with a strong intricate handle.

Where on earth did you find that? How interesting!

      At a thrift store.

What a beautiful, interesting bag. Have you ever had this bag appraised? What year do you think it is?

Very beautiful bag! I've seen similar ones described as "card purses".....maybe this is one?
I also have a feeling there were embellished knobs to go on the screws on the corners, but that is a guess.

Love it!!! Maybe the purse belongs to this guy here ??

Actually I have no idea. Is it a Purse? Could it have been like a mail box thingy ? I do not know -- nor why the bolts on the side?? Got me beat..../?

Pretty sure it is a biscuit warmer :) It would explain the bolts on the sides for it to put on a stand.

*to be put. I have had something similar before at one of my estate sales.

Ooh, I don't know if I would put biscuits in there....!! Can't seem to find a photo of another anywhere on the web.

So in a round about way it was something like this ( for a biscuit warmer )

just so others can get the idea, and about the bolts. great find..

Exactly it must swing over heat and opens on each side easily. I guess I'm missing the stand.
    12. MeliG MeliG, 9 years ago
Yes Antiquerose, similar to what you have pictured.

      LOL....So true.

Guess not a bag/purse at all but flips over to the category of ( ??) kitchen, or Victorian, or ( is it Silver or silver plated )? I forgot to ask

Never saw one before -- Thanks for Posting!!
    14. MeliG MeliG, 9 years ago
Typically Victorian. Would love to know if there is a maker's mark as well.

Here is another example of one... https://www.rubylane.com/item/234244-35957/Unusual-Antique-Automated-English-Biscuit-Box78

There are no maker marks but a small 17 on inside of lid and an 18 on the other half of the lid.
