This is the kind of quality that may likely have a hidden compartment or 2. I'm guessing mid-European by carvings. Welcome to CW aka : CyberAsylum.
Very nice piece for your first post!
Blunderbuss, I used to like working with wood and learned a little on ways to put hidden compartments into spice cabinets-- as was done back when spices carried great value.
It was fascinating.
SB, I've done some. Give the observer what they expect or want to see . People hardly every look up.

Additional picture from the drawer side and some top view of the larger door could help dating this desk, also the back tell quite story to.
Did you see any nails, wood peg on this piece, is this very heavy or light??
Agree with bb2 and SB, you should have a close inspection for hidden secret cache, there reputations for those are more than common, money, important paper could be hidden, you never know.
Welcome to CW
