Patriotic photograph that feels good during these nasty primary days

I picked this up in a thrift shop yesterday. It was matted and framed simply and is a very striking photo to me. It is unsigned but appears to have been printed the old fashioned way and by hand. I love that I cannot tell the gender or race of the person holding the flag or anything else except that it looks kind of western because of the white hat.
