This is an M-42 German helmet which was used in a tropical area by Kriegsmarine personnel. The helmet has the original field grey paint, but was overpainted a desert sand color to blend in with the local terrain. Instead of painting over the eagle decal as many troops did, this individual decided to paint around it and preserve the decal. Quite a bit of the sand color paint has worn away through use, and one can see the original paint underneath. The soldiers initials H R are painted inside the rear apron of the helmet. This was purchased from the vet's wife.
