This pattern was patented by T.G. Hawks November 4, 1890, patent No. 20,257. The pattern was advertised by Hawkes as late as 1902. The design was one of the entries at the Paris Exposition in 1889. It won the grand international prize for cut glass. Chrysanthemum pattern is rated very rare and very expensive by American cut glass authorities. Besides the great pattern, this piece is in an unusual "free form" shape. Note the upper right hand side of picture number one. There is a tab with fan cutting sticking out from the glass which can used as a hand hold to serve goodies from. This dish is in perfect condition, no chips or nips.

The T.G. Hawkes Cut Glass Co. was based in Corning N.Y.
