I picked this up for my mom: Birds, "illustrated by color photography", 1897.
What I didn't tell her is that I'm pretty sure these were all photographed as stuffed specimens....

Nice. Pretty much that was the only way to paint accurately back at the early 1900's. Audubon was a great shot, and many museum examples are from artists that had to get an image somehow. Photography was a bit challenging early on. Glass plates and birds in flight didn't yield too many good photos. lol. I have been a pardon the term 'birder' for 25 years leading nature walks etc. "a bird in hand" , as the saying goes really helps in identification. The old lithographed prints are fantastic, and I will buy old damaged bird books just for the art. Great post.
Some images came out poorly. I neglected to take pics of those, but it looked like the camera moved.
