I always remember this on my Mom's dresser.
I don't know anything about it.
I am wondering what kind of metal the lid is?

There is a crack on one side of the lid. There is no marking at all. It is so heavy, I wondered if it is pewter.

The only thing that looks like any kind of marking is a large ' (apostrophe) on the bottom of the glass.

    Thanks!

Oh how pretty! Our TallCakes will know, and I think I know what he'll say, but let's see! :)

can't say for sure what metal the lid may be from photos; pewter lids were often used on EAPG powder/dresser jars. The pattern of your jar looks to be Fostoria #576 'Persian' c1897; AKA: Crown and Shield. It's a lovely keepsake!
