Looking at the red/brown shade with the white and lighter brown drip glaze I would say this is 1960s from Japan.
I have seen a whole range of plates, bowls, ashtrays etc with a very similar decor to this.
I this quite extraordinary and must be weighty!
I can ID this right away. It is Canadian Mid Century Maurice Chalvignac Hanging Lamp. Very Retro, Very Collectibles, and demands some $$$. I could ID this one a mile away. Sorry I missed it. It would/could have had this type of label ( sticker ) on it at one time:

and just some other things made by them ( eg ) AND also a FB Page on it:

~ ~ Your mystery is Solved !!!!! ~ ~
Oh yes they made lamps, vases, Pictures etc. Lots of things.
If I recall, they did have a Paris Connection back in 1950's and might have gotten some of their influences from Vallauris ................but ** Maurice Chalvignac ** is a Canadian Company
Genius Rose! I was well off the mark. Maybe the Japanese used (ripped off?) his ideas.
Fiona this appears to be worth a good amount of money!
@karen -- Or Maybe some did end up there.....Best look twice at them just in case....LOL.
~ Hate to walk by a real "Maurice Chalvignac" pottery piece. If you find one, grab it. See the FB page [link] above as many lovers of this pottery !!1
