One should never go to weekend markets on the second day. But unable to attend on the first day of a recent market, I could not resist the temptation and never the less went on the second day, and for some reason nobody had picked up this beautiful German Jugendstil tile with lily of the valley décor! I am not sure which was to turn it – do the flowers grow upwards or hang down – what do you think?
On the backside it is marked ‘SO Meissen’. ‘SO’ stands for ‘Sächsische Ofenfabrik’ (‘Saxon Oven Factory’). As far as I have been able to detect, the factory was founded in 1869 by Ernst Teichert, brother of Carl Teichert who is also famous for ceramics manufacturing. In 1930 the factory merged with some other factories to form the Teichert-Werke and it seems to be believed that it did not reopen after WWII.
Size: 15 x 15 cm
Thanks vetraio, aura, antiquerose, and VioletOrange!
So modern design! Other visitors may believed it was 1970' :-)
Great eye you have :-)
In my opinion pic #2 is the right position!
The second position is correct - Lilies of the Valley flowers hang downward. Such a pretty tile, too! It would look great in frame and hung on the wall.
I know just what you mean about going to a market on the second day. I always try to go on the first day, even though I know there will be some new sellers on the second day. Pickings are much better on day 1.
Thanks kyra and Efesgirl! I think you're right that the 2nd position is the correct one!
stunning my friend !!! this is wonderful color and deisgn!!
