Acquired as a lot in a recent auction, these two glass sculptures are by Professor Jan Cerny (b. 1907, d. 1978), ca. 1971. The yellow tulip sculpture is about 12" tall, and is signed "29 Jan Cerny". The brown horse and rider is quadruple signed - engraved DESIGN J. CERNY, an acid stamped Ceska mark, the Art Czechoslovakia clear label, and another paper label with a logo I don't recognize. Both pieces have polished bases and the back sides are cut smooth and polished. Both sculptures are UV reactive and glow under black light. The tulip sculpture is documented in Contemporary Art Glass, by Ray & Lee Grover.
Beautiful!!!
Hi Warren,
Any chance you can post an image of the unknown label, please??
Thanks,
Marcus
I believe it is the round one in photo 2 above the Art Czechosolvakia clear label.
Ok, thanks, I completely missed it.
It could be a label for a small atélier, that did the castings, the name of which escapes me for the moment but if my memory is not faulty, the atelier name began with an M.

Was it MAJÁK, MARCUS ?
That's the one, Kevin, thank you.
Just checked Langhamer and my volumes of CGR 1980 and 1984 for Cerny, sadly no Majak label shown. Sorry.

Majak label shown there, so not Majak unless the logo was redesigned.
