Sugar Nipper"

The photos show a 19th Century sugar nipper and a cone of sugar, as it was sold in the early 1800's. Sugar was not bleached white, but was sold as a brown croquette shaped cone to be placed on the table for guests to nip off a chunk to sweeten their tea.
