New to my collection is this adorable little Ruby, Diamond and Sapphire fly brooch. Unfortunately the previous owners had repaired it with 2 brilliant cut diamonds and 1 single cut instead of trying to find diamonds more compatible. 2 diamond chips are still missing. I know that the gem stones are ruby and sapphire but have not had them tested to see if they are synthetic or not. I'm now debating if I should have them replaced with diamonds more like the original ones or leave the brooch as is.
Also would anyone know what era this clasp is from and what country ?
The lady I bought it from her ancestors were from England, and the gold tests for 14k, there are no hallmarks to be found on the brooch.
I would appreciate any information.
Many thanks ahead of time.
Very beautiful!!!
I think its Victorian, if it is from the UK which it most probably is, the gold is either 9ct or 15ct. It's a very pretty brooch, good luck with you research.
Jewellery in the UK in Victorian times was seldom marked.
A Bzz Bzzz, I saw a Bzz Bzz! Love them!!!
Beautiful one :-)
For the clasp, see there, fig.10 (yours is slightly different, made to avoid puncture from the pin!):

For sure, it would be better to find OLD rosecut diamonds, not the flat ones with ony 3 facets to replace the brillant cut and complete the lacks.
Thank you Peasejean
I have a feeling it might be 15 k
Thank you
Martika and Kyratango
I love it too
Bzzzzzzz
Good hint from Jean, I feel it English, 1880 :-) if not replacements, stones weren't synthetic then.
I agree with you Kyratango
The brilliant cut stones stand out like a sore thumb, it will take some time to find similar cut diamonds but it will be worth it in the end.
I also went to real or repo, very helpful and informative.
Thank you always.
I knew our kyratango would appreciate this beautiful bzz bzz!! :) I love it, too, think I am catching her love of the bugs. :))
Thank you
:)
The little bee looks like its signing the "peace sign" with its tiny little "bee hands".
Peace Out little bee!!
That's so funny.
I saw the same thing but didn't mention it cause I thought it was just me.
