This is an original H. Marshall Gardiner hand colored print entitled "Old Nantucket". It measures 7" x 13". Someone had it nicely framed years ago.

Marshall's hand colored prints are very collectible. He set up shop in Nantucket in 1910. A collector of his works in Cape Cod confirmed it is original. I was so thrilled.

How did I get it? Thirty five years ago I was helping my then boyfriend move out of his condo. I was taking out a bag of trash and this was sitting in the dumpster. I remember to this day forgetting to put the bag in the dumpster, but somebody did.

The true meaning of dumpster diving?

I've been a Gardiner Fan for many years. I started out as a young collector with Stamps, Stamps led to Postcards and H Marshall Gardiner Postcards of Nantucket were published for him by the Detroit Publishing Co. They had a unique printing process called "Phostint" which made the Postcards of his Photographs very beautiful and they became popular collectables in the world of Deltiology. From Gardiners Postcards I went on to collect his Prints and at one time had quite a few. Over the years I've given away or sold many, mostly the Nantucket prints, but still have twenty thirty packed away, of Bermuda and maybe a couple of Nantucket. There's a very interesting history behind Gardiner and his work for those interested in researching his life.
