I find this to be the most commonly seen Welz décor in the UK. In fact I'd stopped buying this décor when I spotted it. But hey, I couldn't resist as I think it may be quite rare! So if you have this shape, in a different Welz décor, please share.
The white layer is round, but the clear casing is hexagonal. The thorns are pulled from the points of the hexagon.....where the casing is at it's thickest. This one has an added clear coil going around it!
Height 22cm./8.5 inches
Peggy - quite a find! I agree, quite unusual - but these things might be lurking in cabinets in the UK waiting for their day!
Ian, I so agree.....the lurking in cabinets notion is probably our 'raison d' être'!
Beautiful Sklo...I imagine they stay in families for a very long time being handed down until they are considered too unfashionable and given away.
You are so right, mikelv. I like it best when they're given to charity shops of course!
Me too Sklo but these don't show up much here in the states as they would by you. :)
Nice example! Different shape and details.
Love it!!
~ Does Mine fall in that Splatter Range too and Mine in round on the outside not hexagonal like yours

Craig, thanks. At least the décor makes it an open-and-shut case. I hope :)
antiquerose, thanks for the link to yours, which is gorgeous and in such pretty colours. However I was wondering whether anyone had this exact shape in a different Welz spatter. I'll rephrase my query.
Oh okay.....still nice to have them reference to each other - as a resource tool.....LOL
I have this decor of spatter on several different Welz shapes. Seems like a pretty solid attribution, at least to me.
Me too.
I like the little V shapes rigaree at the back, appearing to give it the function of making this a candlestick thorn vase offering a small "handle" with which to carry it. I have never seen that before that I recall.
I thought that was what they did when space ran out before the rigaree. That or they felt the need for counter weighting. I hold it by the curled up end of the tube on the other side. May be just a talking point.....
I feel little down lately, and your thorn vase push me in the happiness side, I love it.
I believe remember see a few of those in my new friend collection, not even sure if he want to get rid of it, He didn't want to get rid of the LOETZ in the first place and land to get it, the future will tell.
Thanks for this little push.
Regards
Alan
Hi Alan, I'm sorry to hear you're not your usual buoyant self. We all have times like that.....and if this helped a little I'm glad :)
I love the colors Peggy! The last pic is great... it shows off the ripples and thorns so nicely!
Lovely Peggy. This is quite a common decor here in the UK but I've never seen it on a Thorn vase before, nor with a swirl around. Nice find.
Thank you, Rick.....your comments are always so thoughtful.
Thanks Fran, but that's Welz for you.....always something new turning up!
