I have had this album already quite a few years -it's a charity shop find, I love old photos. It shows the members of the Clark and Beaumont family from Liverpool. On most of the pictures is a handwritten note with a name of the person and their relation. There are approximately 40 pictures. The oldest photos are probably from the 1860s, the newest must be from 1930 (?) - according to the clothes. The album itself was gifted maybe as a birthday present to a girl or lady called Eva by her auntie Maggie in 1899. I sometimes think how interesting would be to find their descendants. The album itself isn't in the best condition, but it didn't fall apart yet.
Imagine, a family history dumped off to the thrift store. Glad you rescued it. Must be very interesting!
Yes, Efesgirl, you are right about the family history. There are some photos of same individuals showing them in different stages of their life.

It's sad, but this is common to see-- not an entire album, but old photos. At least you can attribute a location/name to some of them.
I recall once entering an antique shop and spotting a basket of photos. I was suddenly in total shock-- I was sure that I had the exact same people at home in some carte de visites!
I brought my photos in later and compared them-- not the same family, but danged similar in every way. LOL.
What an interesting find, all photos you show are beautiful, posed as for a painting!

Passed from the family by mistake or more often (in my experience) a case of no interest. Sadly many folks today have little connection with 19th century relatives and don't see any value in old photos of people they never knew.

The strange thing about these pictures is most of them have a handwriting note on the back like Uncle Bob Clark or Grandfather Thomas Clark .... of Preston, or Mrs Beaumont, aunt Jane, father's sister, Uncle Willie (William Clark of Kirkby L'pool)... They had a pastor in their family. I know it because it's written on the back of the images.
Beautiful photos! It's also possible the person passed away without a close family member to sort through their possessions, so the estate was cleaned out and sold by a third party. It would be interesting to solve the mystery though.

I love this line of conversation! Each time I see old photographs for sale or a framed portrait in a shop, I wonder how they reached that end. Can't imagine letting go of pieces of family history. Perhaps in some cases, it's the end of the lineage. But I agree that some people just are not interested in the past. I get the feeling most on this sight are very interested! mary

What a great thing to find - the photos look to be in good shape too. There aren't many people that write on the back who they are etc. Super.
