I am brand-new to this site and thought it would be a good place to start finding out about some of the antiques that I have. This chair was in the house that I grew up in on Long Island. The house was built in the early 1800s, and my parents bought it right after the war fully furnished. Many of the old antiques went up into the attic, and were enjoyed only by the three kids who loved to play up there. While playing, we probably destroyed several beautiful antiques, but this chair survived.
50 years later, my mother had it refinished for me, but when she saw how beautiful it turned out she decided to keep it for herself. LOL. The upholstery is not what I would've chosen, but I still cherish this chair and all the memories that it holds for me.
I've seen some similar chairs in articles in House Beautiful magazine, and was amazed that I would have one like it in my possession. I am a lover of antiques, but have no real knowledge of what I own. I would love to know the providence of the chair; it must be nearly 100 years old . What would this be called, what age would it be from, and is there a worth put on a chair like this? I would love to pass the history on to my grandchildren who will be the owners of this chair someday.
Thank you for whatever assistance anyone can give me.
