Hey Guys I'm looking to try and identify this large fixed blade knife. The blade itself has an RCP stamp onto it with wooden handle. I have no idea of the period Of the knife and I was looking to get some opinions from you guys.
Why do you think Civil War?
I don't know that's why the ?? The blade is old and I'm not used to seeing such crude stamping on the blade of a knife especially since it's not siting at the tang. But to be sure I have no idea I'm looking for someone that has a more educated guess than mine.
Hey, Chris. It got your attention ! LOL !!
Yep I could have said Roman and that would have really created a small storm
Whitman, you should be in advertising! ha!
Well I kinda am !
Don't y'all look at Evilbay ? "Rare"," Scarce", and my all time favourite, "Confederate" !
This is a "bolo", in essence a small machete, a typical working man's knife used in the jungles and on farms in tropical climes throughout the Pacific islands and Central America. The majority of those seen are from the Philippines and were brought back after WWII by GIs stationed there. Some, like this one, are fairly primitive; some are well made with elaborately carved handles.
Thanks Uncle Ron for the great information on this.
