Bought from a dusty old antique shop here in my home town about 18 years ago. This old tiger has been through the wars a little - before I bought it and shows it's age, but I love it that way, I like to see good age in a piece like this, perfection can leave me cold sometimes.
I did a little research into Auguste Carli. He was a sculptor, born 12 July in Marseille, France in 1868 and died in Paris January 28 1930. It seems most of his well recorded works are in marble and are monumental, but he also worked in plaster, bronze and terracotta. You can google some of his works and you will see what I mean. I expect my little terracotta tiger dates from the 30s and during his later years. Whether he had his hands on if this piece was a signed product of a studio, who knows?
Approx 15" in length...Grrrr....!
