Hello,
I moved into my Grandma's house several months ago. We've been going through boxes in the attic that have been up there for years and came across this item. It is a rug, looks to be woven of some type of hair. It measures around 34 x 48 inches. It has the reverse image on the other side of the rug. It depicts several black/African? figures wearing what looks to be robes?, near a building. Perhaps a church? I'm thinking its origins aren't American, but African or Caribbean, Again, I'm not sure. I've been researching it on the internet and haven't been able to find a rug like it. I have found Black Americana rugs, but this one looks much different to me. If anybody has any background or history on this rug, I would love to hear from you!! I really like it and would love to know more about it! Thank you!!!!
They are all saying, " Gimme dollar, Mon " or maybe, "Taxi ?". LOL !
Jamaican?
Naw, Mani. Jamaicans wouldn't have enough energy to make that ! "Why pick the fruit, when we can pick the tourists ?".
Well I have to agree with you bb2 from experience on that " No Problem Mon " but then Haiti ?
Haiti, Trinidad maybe, but looks more like Africa proper to me.
I think it looks Islamic, white robes on the people and a mosque in the background perhaps. A prayer rug if it's small? Muslim Africa if so but more south, Rwanda Burundi Ethiopia maybe...
That sounds more like it Olof.
