Looks and feels like it is made from deer hide, black yarn for the hair, looks to be a red bow in the hair, very limited bead work, just a few on each (3 or 4) moccasin, eyes and mouth. The leather outer is over a cloth doll body can't tell what the stuffing is made of but it crunches. the face seems to be suede and the back of the head fabric, maybe wool.
I would like to know appox the year and what tribe, I'm thinking Dakota/Lakota.
She/ he is wonderful and I would date early 1900's . Hard to tell when not holding her . Are eyebrows painted on ? She/he may have wore beaded necklaces also . We have a few Native American experts on here and hope they stop by . I believe she may have been sold as a tourist doll . She is well made . A treasure !!
Thanks, the eyebrows are thread. What look like a part of a quill is stuck/sewn to the back of the head.
Very interesting doll I have no idea what tribe but Apache comes to my mind by type of clothes but hoping our native american guys come forward on this post. I have seen many Indian dolls but have never been good at remembering the style of each other than Navajo which jumps out when you see one . Wish I can feel hair to see what they used and bow might help date it better if you can do a close up . You can email back of head and a clear close up of ribbon at Manikin1234@hotmail.com or take down on photo and replace it ,but I think all the one's you have posted should stay .

Yes I did and I consulted with another doll expert that knows more about Indian dolls. Believe it to be a Indian tribe unknown but a Forest Indian tribe vs a Plains Indian. Likely from a tribe around NY and Canada area like tribes that helped French . Dating 1920-1940 . I know that is not exact tribe you want to know but without enough bead work hard to tell . It is wonderful however .
