The little box was a gift from a friend who knows I collect boxes.It had been in her family for a long time but she didn't know the origin of it.
It is a very unique item and I've never seen another quite like it .

It appears to be American raku (a process developed by Paul Soldner in the 1960s, also called post-firing reduction) so is likely a one-of-a-kind piece, made by a studio potter, or one of the many thousands of students, potters, or interested individuals who attended a raku workshop or class in the last 40 years or so.
It's going to be difficult to identify the maker, unless the potter repeated the colors and imagery in other works, and someone recognizes it. It's well-done, so it doesn't appear to be the work of a novice potter.
