I usually steer clear of modern glass but this was way too beautiful to pass up for the price. These are made in Turkey from what I've read and are part of a collection named after the Ottoman palace "Topkapi" in Istanbul. Hand painted on the reverse and then backed in gold it creates a stunning enamel effect on the front side. They come in a myriad of designs and colors. This one is a 12" centerpiece bowl but they also come in smaller 8" pieces and a huge 16" charger. It would have had a " Topkapi Collection" tag and sticker on the front when new. -Mike-

Thanks Ken....since the new manager arrived at Salvation I never get to see my friend anymore or help sort through jewelry like we used to. She says he collects all the good pieces and puts out the junk. No one knows what he does with them either. So it's kind of back to square one with whatever catches my eye and this sure did. :)

Mike - I hate it when people do that! He probably sells the items online. That happened at a charity shop where one of my friends works. A woman there, last year, bought all the jewelry (for a very small price) that came in that was any good and put out the crap. She then gave her sister the jewelry to sell. Well, she missed a beautiful silver pendant last month. It was put out for sale and I got it. Apparently, she thought it was base metal and ignored it. Before she came along, all the jewelry was put out for everyone to buy.

Your Turkish plate is terrific! I love Turkish ceramics and glass. I used to live in Turkey, and my nose prints are probably still on some shop windows!

Mike and Bonnie, I'd go in to the local prosecutor's office and have a quiet talk about what's going on with these charity shop managers. There may not be anything fishy going on, but if there is, they deserve to be busted. People donate these items in order to raise money for their organization, if the good stuff is getting diverted to enrich someone privately, that is infuriating and wrong.

Thanks Bonnie and Katherine....well it was fun while it lasted. All they care about now is moving out racks of clothes and production quotas. The jewelry cases are empty and the toy shelves are bare. My cashier friend has been exiled to the back and no one is in there proper dept and it shows. The prices have gone up too. I can still find bargains but not very often. This guy is ruining the store and making everyone unhappy.

I could not have passed this up either Mike.
I have seen plates reverse decorated before but this is so beautiful! I am partial to Turkish style.

Mike, second hand shops are not supposed to have high prices. That is what's happening with that one shop I described. They have turned their shop into some High Street snooty-patooty place which isn't fun anymore. I might complain to the municipality about it, since these shops are not-for-profit organizations who employ volunteers. I can go to the pawn shop and buy good silver for 1 buck a gram. Cheaper than the thrift shop!

I'll stick to the shops with stuff in boxes on the floor, dust on the shelves and display cases crammed with all kinds of interesting things.

I agree Bonnie. When I was there today all they were doing was organizing the clothes by size. They even brought in extra help from other Salvation Army stores. I saw the back room just stacked with awesome furniture and I'm sure other great things and it was just sitting. I don't know what this guy is trying to prove but the store has lost it's appeal and created a horrible atmosphere to work and shop in. You couldn't even look around because of all the clothes racks in the aisles and people running around like ants. No smiles no hellos just work, work, work. One of the ladies was even crying the other day because she was told she wasn't working fast enough ! What a B!^@&$^d this guy is !

This just reminded me of the copper plate I have listed and just found out today what it is, yours here looked the same but I see it's glass. Same region though.

I LOVE your puppy! Soooo cute!

Thanks Share for the "love" and comment....that's Mitzi . I know not very Scottish....lol but she was already named when I adopted her. She was a rescue at 3 years old. She'll be 12 in June and the best dog ever ! :)

Bonnie & Mike >>> After upgrading to a Fender model, I once donated a nice Epiphone Sunburst Acoustic Guitar to the local Good Will. Not a terribly expensive guitar. A starter model for about $110 then, but nice. I kept returning to the store to see what kind of price they put on the guitar, just out of curiosity, you know, but never saw the guitar on the sales floor. A friend of mine told me later that the guitar was probably sitting in the store manager's house or possibly one of the Sorter's house. Call me naïve or stupid, but I never considered anyone would do that. Now, if I donate anything to Good Will or other thrift stores, it's basically just junk. Anything good goes directly to someone I know. ; (

Well Nevada I told my friend at Salvation the next time that new manager is within ear shot I'm going to run my mouth about how bad things have been lately. No jewelry, no toys, no new glass and ceramics and the prices have sky rocketed for things you can still buy new for half their price. It's (expletive) ridiculous !

Here in Vegas, too, Mike. Just a few years, before we moved to Durango, Colorado, you could find really good bargains at SAVERS and GOOD WILL. We come back 4 years later and find the prices are just about the same as regular store prices. The thrift store in Durango is still pretty good, though, so every time we go back to visit our granddaughter I make sure to drop in and see what I can find.
