I don't know how many of you have seen a steam locomotive in action, much less been aboard one, but I thought some of you might like to see one up close & personal. Before Fortapache's E-8 diesels came along in the 50's, the country's freight and passengers moved by steam. Steam cabs are hot, noisy, filthy, rough riding, poor visibility environments, compared to a diesel locomotive. You never forget when you are hit with a blast of 2000 degree heat when the firebox doors are open to tend to the fire. Some of us wouldn't have it any other way!
Hanging out in the cab of a steam locomotive is fun indeed. Hard to compare though as the E-8 is a top notch locomotive.
I am seeing a super cool ALCO RS unit in the background.
