The first thing any collector knows is Bradford Exchange and Franklin Mint are synonymous with the phrase "Future collectable" and it's also the kiss of death because they rarely if ever are. It doesn't mean they cant' be attractive though. Case in point this lovely lady I picked up from Salvation Army yesterday. A 1981 Morganstown full lead crystal plate hand engraved and signed by Michael Yates. This is plate number one in his "Country Ladies" series. Even without it's box and documentation you know exactly what it is. All the info is etched around the bottom edge of the plate and signed on the front. The design is engraved into the front and the back. The layers give it a wonderful 3D effect. Not expensive or appreciated in value after all these years but beautiful and damage free. -Mike-

Have to agree. It's a lovely piece.
I rarely see Franklin Mint pieces and as you say some are pretty good.
Kiss of death though with the name on it and our pre-conceptions colouring our vision.

Hey good photos too Mike. Did you get a camera or is that still the phone?
    3. mikelv85 mikelv85, 9 years ago
Thanks Karen ...nope it's still my phone. I Just used a black background and it's lit from the side. Photo editor with enhanced contrast did the rest. I know I'm a bit harsh but you would have paid way more for this 35 years ago than it's worth now. These actually lose value due to high production than increasing in value. Still a nice quality piece though. :)

The Bradford Exchange seems to be a Canadian company now. I remember back in the late 70's Peter Berman who wrote the 4 vol Encyclopedia on Bronzes, was very impressed by their work. He expected the company would be the Collectibles of tomorrow but it did not really happen or work out that way. This glass looks to be excellent quality however !

Thank you Phil for the "love" and comment. Yes, it is a very nice piece of glass indeed. :)

This is beautiful! I usually don't buy Bradford Exchange items, but I certainly would have bought this one!

Thanks Bonnie....they do make beautiful things but just too many to be of value. :)
