The lamp on the right I purchased at a local 5 + 10 in 1957 for my Grandmother.
Along with it I also purchased one with a blue shade. At that time I paid 50cents for both. They were Birthday presents. For an additional 15 cents I bought a Birthday card, and a bag of starlite mints for 29 cents. I think the sales tax rate at that time was 1 or two percent at most. Candy was't taxable. Boy, that $1 silver certificate went a long way then. My 12 year old grandson asked me for an odd job around the yard or house, he wanted to earn some money for a gift. It brought back a few fine memories like the little perfume lamp bottle. I asked him
to rake and pull some weeds, took him about an hour. When I asked what he thought the job was worth he said, " Grandpa! between $20 & $25" , I asked why between? why not say $22.50? He said, I was hoping for the $25. because thats the last figure you would have heard. Times have changed. By the way, I have those perfume bottles on our curio shelf. The memories are worth more than a million dollars to me. But then again the dollars are not worth much today anyway. Nice seeing them, enjoy them.
