Of all the tools I have ever bought, sold, and collected this veneering hammer remains one of my favorites. Veneering "hammers" were not used to strike but were actually smoothers pressed against and dragged across the surface of the veneer sheet to smooth and flatten it. The head is apx. 4" wide and 5 1/2" long.
